This year, there have been a lot of conversations about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). There have been conversations about the resources that they should be allocated to them, the legacies, and the need for more of the top high school athletes to attend.

With Mikey Williams announcing that he would consider attending an HBCU, there has been a renewed interest in HBCU sports. Makur Maker, who was a 5-star recruit decided to attend Howard, which was a step in the right direction for black athletes and HBCU's.

All of this makes today's news from Michael B. Jordan that much better. Today he announced an HBCU basketball showcase in his hometown of Newark, NJ. It will he held at the Prudential Center in Newark. The showcase will feature the top men's and women's teams. The Hoop Dreams Classic will also feature live performances and a battle of the bands.

This is a great opportunity for some of these athletes to be exposed to a wider audience, which may mean more money for the schools and more opportunities for the athletes. It also gives more people the opportunity to see and learn about HBCU culture, who wouldn't have had the chance before. We're excited about the inaugural showcase next year!
