The Genius of Bisa Butler
Here at The Grnwood we enjoy art in all its forms. We recently stumbled upon an amazingly talented contemporary artist from New Jersey named Bisa Butler. As an alumnus of Howard University, Bisa has had her work shown at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Newark Museum of Art, and many prominent venues. The medium that Bisa uses is quilting. Her elaborately colorful and detailed quilts display a rich sense of Black pride and Black history. Her unapologetic approach to her brand of storytelling is one of the reasons that her work is so loved.
