Daily Paper: A Brand About African Culture and Beyond

DAILY PAPER FOUNDERS GROUP.png

Daily Paper is an Amsterdam based lifestyle brand founded by Hussein Suleiman, Jefferson Osei, and Abderrahmane Trabsini in 2008. The founders are from Somalia, Ghana, and Morocco. The imaging, prints, and aesthetic bleed black culture.

Let's start with the logo for Daily Paper. The logo features a Maasai shield with spears strikingly similar to the design of the Kenyan flag. For context, the Maasai people are a tribe that can be found mostly in the East African countries of Kenya and Tanzania.

Daily Paper is unapologetically spreading African culture. Infusing inspirations from the various backgrounds of the founders is a beautiful way of building and sustaining a brand. The colors, prints, and designs stand out in a way that few companies do. In a world where everyone is starting a clothing brand, and everyone has access to a screen printer and a warehouse, companies have to go the extra mile to truly stand out.

The emergence of the brand speaks a lot to the power of youth culture in the Netherlands. The hip hop scene in the Netherlands is what provided a springboard for Daily Paper to be popularized across the Netherlands, further across Europe, and now the world. Daily Paper is a testament to how the internet and youth culture can create a world without borders. Utilizing pop up stores in the Netherlands, Ghana, and South Africa, Daily Paper continues to grow the core audience and deliver multifaceted experiences!
